Working
Truth is, Powys is a modern, dynamic county, and we want modern, dynamic professionals to live and work here. As such, you can look forward to fresh challenges, first-rate training and development, genuine scope for career progression, along with competitive salaries and a work-life balance that’s second to none.
And, ultimately, Powys is a place for professionals who want to work to live. People who want affordable housing, safer communities, superb schools, excellent civic amenities and fantastic working environments (check out the Oriental-inspired Council offices in Llandrindod), open roads, breathtaking scenery and a richer quality of life.
Just take a look at what some of the people who live and make a living here have to say.
Powys Profiles
Elin Jones - Radiographer, Moved to Powys April 2005I grew up in the Cardigan area where I still have family. I moved to London to fulfil my ambition to work for a large teaching hospital. I thoroughly enjoyed my job and the challenges and opportunities it presented but somehow this wasn’t enough. I am a keen walker and love the outdoor life. Having grown up in Wales I was already aware of Powys and didn’t hesitate to apply when the opportunity to work for Powys LHB came up. Powys has it all for me. It is close enough to my family but not too far from my friends in Bristol. It is easy to get to Cardiff, London and Birmingham. The scenery is glorious and the area offers some of the best walking in the UK. As for working for Powys LHB. I am really impressed by how highly staff are regarded within the organisation. One thing that really struck a chord with me very early on was that the Chief Executive personally attended our induction session. In my experience this is really unusual - perhaps because in terms of staff Powys LHB is a much smaller organisation than I am used to. However, small does not describe Powys at all. It is a huge geographical area with 10 community hospitals. This means that the challenges and opportunities I thrived on working for the teaching hospital are still there for me here - only different. Powys LHB is a unique organisation. It is the Welsh pathfinder organisation and has been completely transformed in recent years. There is still a lot more to be done. I am delighted to bring my experience and expertise to Powys and to be able to make a difference - for staff as well as for patients. I have lots of ideas and know that I will be encouraged and supported to follow these through. As I have already experienced Living and working in Powys enables me to live life my way. Not only do I have a job I love and the outdoor life I enjoy but easy access to Towns, Cities, family and friends. |
